Citizenship in Nashville

Citizenship and Naturalization Attorney in Nashville, Tennessee

If you have held a green card long enough to qualify, naturalization is the final step. We prepare the N-400, review your eligibility (including any history that could affect it), and get you ready for the interview and civics test. Our office is on West End Avenue in Nashville, and we serve clients by video as well.

Who can apply

Generally, you must be at least 18 and have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years, with continuous residence during that time and physical presence in the United States for at least 30 months of it. If you are married to a U.S. citizen, the period may be 3 years instead: you must have lived in marital union with your spouse for the 3 years before filing, your spouse must have been a U.S. citizen for that whole time, and you must have been physically present for at least 18 months. You also must have lived in your state or USCIS district for at least 3 months before filing, show good moral character, and pass the English and civics tests unless an exception applies. We review your travel history and any past issues before you file, because an avoidable problem is easier to address before the application than after.

The civics test depends on your filing date

Which version of the civics test you take depends on when you filed, not when you interview. Applications filed on or after October 20, 2025 take the 2025 civics test (128 questions in the bank, up to 20 asked, 12 correct answers to pass). Applications filed before that date take the 2008 version (100 questions, up to 10 asked, 6 correct to pass). Your receipt notice shows your filing date. Applicants who are 65 or older and have been permanent residents for at least 20 years take a shorter version, and some applicants may be exempt from the English or civics test because of a disability (Form N-648).

Interview and oath ceremony

USCIS schedules your interview and your oath ceremony and tells you where each will be held; your notice controls, and USCIS can assign a case to a different office. Our Nashville page has more on the USCIS offices and on oath ceremonies in Middle Tennessee. We prepare you for the interview, including questions about your application and the civics and English tests, and we guide you through the oath step.

Fees

We work on flat fees. The USCIS filing fee is separate and is paid to USCIS. Current N-400 filing fees are in our N-400 guide, and the official schedule is Form G-1055. DHS proposed changes to N-400 fees and fee waivers in June 2026 (91 FR 37500); as of Oct. 8, 2026 no final rule has been published, so check the current schedule before you file. See our news item on that proposal.

What we do not do

We handle affirmative matters only. We do not take removal defense or immigration court litigation. Our attorney is licensed in Tennessee and handles federal immigration matters before USCIS.

Citizenship Questions We Get Asked in Nashville

Which civics test will I take?

It depends on your filing date. Applications filed on or after October 20, 2025 take the 2025 civics test; applications filed before that take the 2008 version. Your receipt notice shows your filing date.

Can you guarantee my citizenship application will be approved?

No. No attorney can guarantee an outcome. We can review your history and prepare a complete application.

Do I need a lawyer to naturalize?

Not everyone does. Many straightforward cases are filed without an attorney. A review is most useful if you have any arrests or charges, long trips abroad, or unanswered questions about your own history. We tell you honestly if we think your case is straightforward.

Do you handle deportation cases?

No. We handle affirmative filings with USCIS only.

Can I have a consultation by video?

Yes. Nashville clients can meet in person or by video, and appointments are required.
